CHILD SAFETY STATEMENT

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers,

With one week to go before Easter and the school holidays it's the perfect time to reflect on the term's achievements.  At our Curriculum Guiding Coalition meeting on Tuesday I congratulated the team representatives on how much learning they have managed to achieve in a term full of so many interruptions. The children have settled into the routines and expectations of the school which is a testament to the work teachers do during the "Learning to Learn" program at the start of the year.  Our assessment schedule has been completed which puts us in a good position to customise learning programs for our students.

The staff participated in Day 1 of the ReLATE program and are looking forward to Day 2 later in the year.

Our athletics, swimming, tennis and cross country sporting events ran smoothly and were well supported by families.  The Parents & Friends have had a busy term with the Street Race, Shrove Tuesday Pancakes, Folkie BBQ and Easter Raffle. I thank them for their hard work and you all for supporting these events.

What a busy term it's been...but aren't they all!!

CLOSURE DAY NOTIFICATION & TERM 2 STARTING DATE

Please remember that next Thursday (April 6) and the first Monday back next term (April 24) are closure days.  Staff will be involved in a reflection, data analysis and report writing process in readiness for our School Improvement External Review in August.

Tuesday April 25 is a public holiday for ANZAC Day.

Term 2 begins on Wednesday April 26.

FROM THE RE LEADER - ELIZA DWYER

RESILIENCE, RIGHTS & RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS PROGRAM

The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships learning materials have been designed for teachers in primary and secondary schools to develop students’ social, emotional and positive relationship skills. Efforts to promote social and emotional skills and positive gender norms in children and young people has been shown to improve health related outcomes and subjective wellbeing. It also reduces antisocial behaviours.

The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) learning materials cover eight topics of Social and Emotional Learning across all levels of primary and secondary education: Emotional Literacy; Personal Strengths; Positive Coping; Problem Solving; Stress Management; Help Seeking; Gender and Identity; and Positive Gender Relationships.

In Term 1 the classes are learning about Emotional Literacy and Help Seeking Strategies. Topic content is shared with parents in the Year Level Overviews sent home at the end of week 2 each term.

WEEKLY NEWS - 1/2D

SUSTAINABILITY NEWS

We had our first Sustainability Day of the year on Friday. Our focus was on Energy. We were able to link in Ride2school Day and Earth Hour, as we use no electricity for either. Tom and Mr Steere met our riders at the Surf Club and picked up students from three other spots in Port Fairy on the way. It was a great success and we are looking at the possibility of doing this once a term, so stay posted for this.

After we got back from Cross Country we then took part in Earth Hour, where we spent 2 HOURS rotating through activities prepared by our school leaders. All had a link to energy and ensured we did not need electricity to take part in them.

Students had a great time and our school leaders were able to showcase their new skills learnt from the GRIP conference they attended this term.
