CHILD SAFETY STATEMENT

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers,

The wintery blast this week has taken us all by surprise. I encourage all students to have a jumper or coat at school to ward against the cold winds outside.  Coats are not permitted to be worn in the classrooms, so a jumper might also be necessary.

Congratulations to Mr. Steere, Mr. Sanderson (retired) and the Sustainability groups from 2022/23 for their nomination for two categories in the Sustainability Victorian Awards for 2023. We have been a 5 Star Sustainable school in the past and are currently working towards regaining that status.

WEEKLY NEWS -

SUSTAINABILITY VICTORIAN AWARDS 2023

We are delighted to announce that St. Patrick's Primary School has been nominated for two categories in the Sustainability Victorian Awards for 2023.  This recognition is based on the work of the Sustainability group during 2022 and 2023. Mr. Steere and the Sustainability leaders will travel to the MCG on June 15 to showcase their projects and be present for the announcement of the award winners.  We just so proud that we have been recognised for these awards.

The two categories are...

Student Action Team of the Year

This 4-Star school’s sustainability team formed by 93 students ran Sustainability Day, a school-wide activity based on studying and working on natural resources. To finance future activities, the team ran a fortnightly sustainability raffle with a prize of fresh produce from the garden. They also participate each month in a beach monitoring activity run by Port Fairy Coastal Group.

ResourceSmart School of the Year

Students of this 4-Star school supported the Port Fairy Coastal Group by recording and monitoring data on erosion levels at two local beaches. The collected data is used in literacy and numeracy classroom activities, with the findings later reported to the community. The passion of these students is so contagious that a nearby school has joined them in their coastal mission.

SPORT NEWS - TOMMY GREENE

Congratulations to all those children who competed in the Moyne School’s Athletics last Friday 28th April.  We had a number of place getters on the day in addition to those who did their very best on the day when competing.  Below is a table of children and the events that they have qualified for in this week’s Warrnambool Primary School’s Division Athletics on Friday 5th May at Brauerander.

SCHOOL PHOTOS MONDAY

We have our school photo day on Monday.  Students are to be in correct Winter Uniform and long hair must be tied back as per a normal school day.

CAR PARK PICK UP

As the weather deteriorates and more children are being driven to and from school, please be mindful of the safety of all children.  It is essential that all children crossing roads use the School Crossing. No child is to cross the road amongst and behind the parked cars. If parents park on the opposite side of the road to the school, please instruct your child to use the crossing. The key to safety at school drop off and pick up is patience and vigilance.

NCCD Information Sheet for Parents, Carers and Guardians

Schools must now complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with
Disability (NCCD) every year. It counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments
or “help” at school because of a disability. The NCCD helps governments plan for the needs of
students with disability.

DOBCEL Consultative Committee Leadership Vacancies

The DOBCEL Board provides opportunities for members of the diocesan education community, and others with relevant expertise, to participate in the mission of DOBCEL, to assist its governance and decision making and to inform faithful stewardship of the mission through DOBCEL Consultative Committees. A range of vacancies exists across the DOBCEL Consultative Committees. These committees are an invaluable opportunity to ensure that the work of the Board and CEB reflects the needs of DOBCEL school communities right across the Diocese. Typically, the committees meet once each term for a duration of 90-120 Minutes. The opportunity exists to attend face-to-face or virtually.  For volunteers to the organisation, compensation for expenses is available.

Opportunities exist for parents/guardians/carers with a child/children enrolled in a DOBCEL School to join one of the following;

  • Catholic Faith Community & Culture Consultative Committee
  • Children & Young People Safeguarding & Wellbeing Consultative Committee
  • Family and Community Engagement Consultative Committee
  • Learning and Teaching Consultative Committee

In the event of multiple nominations, the Board will invite Consultative Committee members on the basis of the general balance of the committee, taking into account factors such as gender, diversity, skill mix, location, school size, etc. For more information please contact Jo Mckee  jmckee@dobcel.catholic.edu.au or speak with your school principal. Expressions of interest are open until Wednesday, 3rd May."
