CHILD SAFETY STATEMENT

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week our Year 6 students joined the senior classes from Port Fairy Consolidated for the Moyne Social Innovators Program.  This is a Science, Technology, Economics and Mathematics (STEM) project, giving students the opportunity to design big ideas that showcase new and inovative ways to enrich our lives and the local community. We look forward to hearing their exciting ideas. Thank you to the Moyne Shire who are sponsoring this program.

The inaugural Winter Hockey competition for years 4-6 will take place on Friday at the Hockey Fields in Warrnambool.  Thank you to Anthony Leddin for supporting this initiative and coaching our students leading up to the event.

Don't forget our Working Bee on Saturday.  The front gardens need a fresh look!   Please advise the office if you registered but cannot attend or to let us know if you are available but didn't register.  See more information below.

CLASS NEWS - ART

NAIDOC Week was celebrated during the school holidays. As part of this celebration the junior students worked with local indigenous artist Amelia Bell at the end of last term to create an art piece based around the theme ‘My Place.’ Following on with this theme, the middle year students are currently working on a collaborative art piece based on the story ‘The Rainbow Serpent of The Hopkins River.’ Students are currently in the planning and designing stage of this art piece, but keep an eye out as it will be completed this term and on display in the school for all to see. The senior classes are working on creating one point perspective pictures. Following this series of lessons Leisa McCosh will be introducing the senior students to mosaics. We cannot wait to see the wonderful creations they produce with Mrs. McCosh.

Over the weekend the Warrnambool Art Gallery hosted the Junior Warrnibalds. Over 100 of our students entered a portrait of someone they admire and look up to. These portraits were on display in the WAG for the public to view and it was lovely to hear so many of our families popped in to see the exhibit. A big congratulations to all those who entered. The standard was very high and every portrait showcased our students' creativity and drawing skills. Cooper Dumesny received a Highly Commended for the portrait he drew of his father.

TERM 3 WORKING BEE

Our Term 3 Working Bee is on Saturday July 22nd from 9.00am to 12.00pm.  This will be our final working bee for the year.  Our focus will be on the gardens at the front of the school.  We want to weed, trim the grasses and apply mulch to give our school a fresher look.

Please bring gardening gloves, cutters, shovels, spades, wheelbarrows and rakes if possible!

Do You Have a Health Care Card?

If you are a Health Care Card holder please provide the school with a copy.  This one simple action can mean a reduction in your school fees and an increase in the amount of funding our school is allocated.

BOOK WEEK IS COMING! August 19 - 25

Book Week will be celebrated in Week 7 of Term 3. The Theme is READ GROW INSPIRE! Children can dress up as a book character or something related to the theme on Friday August 25.

BOOK FAIR

Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be open for business in week 3. The children will be visiting the fair Monday & Tuesday to browse the books and we will be open for sales on Wednesday July 26 to Friday July 28. Parents can attend to purchase books before and after school on these days. More information regarding this will be shared next week. The Book Fair raises funds to purchase quality books for our school library.

Year 3 & 5 NAPLAN RESULTS

Year 3 & 5 NAPLAN results have gone home this week.  Please keep these results in a safe place as a copy is required when enrolling at a Secondary School.

Student achievement in NAPLAN is reported using new proficiency standards for each assessment area at each year level. The standards are set at a challenging but reasonable expectation of what students know and can do at the time of testing. There are 4 proficiency levels:

  • Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
  • Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
  • Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
  • Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

The video below gives a detailed description of how to read your child's results.  For more information obout the skills and understandings students were required to demonstrate at the time of testing, parents can click on the link below.
