CHILD SAFETY STATEMENT

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers,

It's good to see some sunshine this week even though the mornings have been brisk.  The success of the Matildas has driven a huge interest in soccer on our senior oval, which is great.  We are focusing on playing fairly in the playground and I'm pleased to say that on the whole, the students are doing a wonderful job of it.

This Sunday 16 of our Year 4 students are making their First Eucharist at the 10.30am parish mass.  They have been doing a family based program to prepare for this important sacrament, which enables them to be full members of the Church. We wish them well and pray for them in their faith journey.

Next week our 3/4 classes are heading off to their camp in Warrnambool.  I hope they have a great time.  Camps are an opportunity to develop independance and confidence away from the family environment.  I ask that parents reinforce this at home and talk positively about the experience.

Next Friday, August 25, we are celebrating Book Week by dressing up as a book character or something along the Grow theme.  There will be no prizes, as all levels of effort deserve to be acknowledged.

While the result wasn't what we were hoping for on Wednesday night, let's put our support behind the Matildas as they battle it our with Sweden for third place on Saturday. Go Matildas!

BISHOP PAUL BIRD - BLESSING OF THE NEW BUILDING

Last Friday, Bishop Paul Bird, visited St Patrick's to bless our new classrooms and open learning space. Priests from the Star of the Sea Parish, DOBCEL Board members, Catholic Education Ballarat leaders, Warrnambool and District principals, parishioners and parents attended along with our Year 3-6 students.  The theme of the liturgy was, "Be the Light."

A highlight of the ceremony was the planting of an Elm tree by the Sustainability Team Leaders and Mr Steere.  This tree is to replace a much loved shade tree that had to be removed to make way for the new building.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Dana and Leigh Nevitt on the birth of their son, Nicholas, brother to Max.

Congratulations also to Benson and Marly Steere on the arrival of their son, Woody James.  Woody is a brother for Hattie and Ophelia.

FROM THE RE LEADER - ELIZA DWYER

NEW SPORT TOPS

On Monday 21 August, there will be new sport house tops available to purchase on CDFpay for $25. Ideally all children would have one in their house colour by the end of next year.

MOTHERS WHO PRAY FOR THEIR CHILDREN

This prayer group for mothers is held each Friday at the Infant Jesus Church in Koroit at 10.45am.  All are welcome!

CLASS NEWS JAPANESE

My name is Jacob Murray and I have had the experience of a lifetime! I was chosen to represent Australia as a Junior Ambassador at the Asia Pacific Children’s Convention held in Fukuoka this July.

I went on a 9 hour plane ride to Tokyo, then another flight to Fukuoka, which is in the south of Japan. I met up with the other ambassadors, Charlie, Piper and Abe at the airport and we played card games to steal each other's lollies!

On the first full day of the Convention I was shown where to sleep and how to use a Japanese bath. The bath was warm and relaxing. I also met some volunteers, named Daiki and Yui, who made my stay amazing. If I had any questions or worries they were there to help me.

It was hot the whole time I was in Fukuoka, so we would get up early and stay in the air-con areas as much as we could! There were many other kids from other countries also attending the conference. I lost count of how many kids there were.

The food was really interesting, in the morning we could choose Japanese style (miso soup, rice and fish) or Western style (cereal, juice, fruit, bread). For lunch we had salad and chicken with miso soup again. And for dinner the menu changed every night. I tried lots of different foods that I normally wouldn’t eat. Snack time was my favourite part of the day as we were given chocolates and waffles, and stickers! I also really enjoyed the Melon Fanta and a drink called Aquarius which is like a sports drink and helps when you are really thirsty.

I tried many activities, karaoke, ice skating, go-karting, basketball, shooting gallery, arcade games, trampolining, bowling, hide and seek and so many others. I made some great friends and I will never forget this experience.

BOOK WEEK IS COMING! AUGUST 19 - 25

Book Week will be celebrated in Week 7 of Term 3. The Theme is READ GROW INSPIRE! Children can dress up as a book character or something related to the theme on Friday August 25.

FROM THE OFFICE - SCHOOL FEE PAYMENTS

Just a reminder that we are nearly three quarters of the way through the year!!  Our governing body is looking at our fee collection and will be asking questions about any fees that haven't either been paid, have a payment plan or signed paperwork, very soon.  It is a requirement by DOBCEL that all school fees are paid by the end of the year. If you haven't set up a payment plan yet or signed paperwork stating how you intend to pay, please contact the office ASAP.
If you need any assistance or have any questions please contact Olga or Bec, on Monday or Thursdays 9-3, or send an email to rlawlor@spportfairy.catholic.edu.au
