CHILD SAFETY STATEMENT

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers,

We had over 180 grandparents and special friends join us on Monday for a wonderful morning of classroom activities, followed by a liturgy and morning tea. Thank you to those who could make it and to the Parents & Friends who supplied the amazing morning tea.

This Friday is World Teacher's Day. We are very lucky to have such dedicated  teachers here at St Patrick's who do what ever it takes to provide each child with quality learning opportunities and pastoral care. Please reach out and thank them.

I will be on Long Service Leave next week to recharge the batteries before the business end of the year.  Tristan Fay will be your contact person.

Olga Lyons (Principal)

SUSTAINABILITY NEWS

On Friday we had another successful ride for Ride2school/work day. Thank you to all the kids that joined Tom and Mr Steere for the ride and also all the other students who rode on the day.

Last week we took part in our monthly beach monitoring session with Pete Sanderson and the Coastal Care Group. This time we invited some of our year 3/4 students to join. They did an excellent job and learnt all about the history of the beach at Pea Soup and how we are helping conserve the area.

2024 CLASSROOM STRUCTURE

In 2024 we will have a slightly different classroom structure each morning to maximise the delivery of a standardised explicit direct instruction teaching method. There will be one class for each year level F-5 with 2 year 6 classes for literacy and numeracy.  Classes will combine into composites (as they are currently) for Religious Education, Inquiry and Wellbeing.

PE NEWS

Hooptime Regional Finals - 2023

On Tuesday, our Year 3/4 boys Hooptime basketball team attended the Primary School regional finals in Hamilton.  In the 5 games the boys played, they won 3 and lost 2 games. We were defeated by Woodford Primary and Hamilton Gray Street. We had wins against Camperdown Primary School and Horsham Primary School.

Ethan Gramss, Lewis Mackenzie, Jack Leddin, Connor Sheehan, Will Versace, Angus Down and Sully Hayes were our team members and all contributed very well throughout our matches.

Our efforts were enough to make the Grand Final in a rematch against Woodford Primary School.  St Pat’s played a great game but in a nail biter, were defeated by two points.

Big thanks to the mums and dads who attended in support and thanks to Kristee Hayes for helping transport students on the day.

Year 3/4 Winter Sports

Next Thursday our Year 3/4 students will participate in their Moyne Schools’ Sports Day at The Gardens Oval in Port Fairy.  This is the same event that was postponed in Term 3 due to a poor weather forecast.  Our students are looking forward to this day and we encourage family and friends to come along and help support our students.  Games begin at 10am.

Moyne Schools’ Cricket Tournament

Next Monday 30th October, Year 6 students will be participating in the Moyne School’s District Cricket Tournament at Southcombe Park, Port Fairy.  Games begin at 10am.

GRANDPARENT'S & SPECIAL FRIEND'S DAY

We had over 180 grandparents and special friends join us for our Grandparent's & Special Friend's Day on Monday.  It was lovely to see them in the classrooms doing activities with their grandchildren or special friend, then joining us for a liturgy and morning tea.  We hope you all enjoyed the occasion. I know the children and teachers certainly did.

THRIVING KIDS & PARENTS PROJECT

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted children’s social and emotional development, resulting in increased levels of anxiety and significant challenges in developing healthy peer relationships.

What is The Thriving Kids and Parents School Project (TKPSP)?

The TKPSP aims to strengthen partnerships between schools and families by offering three FREE, highly relevant Triple P – Positive Parenting seminars for parents. These seminars are online and parents who register will be provided the Zoom link via email.

The project offers 3 free, high quality, evidence-based parenting seminars and a complementary webinar for teachers to help parents and schools to develop a shared language and a toolbox of strategies to support children’s learning and wellbeing.

The parent seminar package includes:

  • Power of Positive Parenting (Triple P Seminar)

  • Helping Your Child to Manage Anxiety (Fear-Less Triple P Seminar)

  • Keeping your Child Safe from Bullying (Resilience Triple P Seminar)

Parents/carers:

1. Register for the seminar series and complete a short (15-20 minute) online questionnaire.

2. Attend three online seminars in the TKPSP series (90 – 120 minutes each seminar)

3. Complete two questionnaires (15 minutes) at 6 weeks and 12 weeks after the first questionnaire.
