CHILD SAFETY STATEMENT

FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Carers,

Mrs Lyons is enjoying her well earned enrichment leave experience in Ireland at the moment!

It’s incredible to think that we have already reached the end of Semester 1. It provides a great opportunity to reflect on all the progress made and achievements accomplished by our students in the first half of this year. From the sporting fields to the art room, the guitar lessons to our Social Innovators projects, the Eisteddfod stage to our sustainability work and from the novel studies in Year 3 - 6 to the SoundsWrite lessons in Foundation to Year 2. I find myself continually amazed at all the incredible things that happen at St Patrick’s daily.

A huge thank you must go out to all the people that make these incredible opportunities available to our very lucky students. Our outstanding parent community, our wonderful staff and our generous community partnership members, we are very fortunate to have the support from so many fantastic and hard working people.

Thanks to all our parents and teachers for making the time to meet this week to discuss the students social, emotional and academic learning. Students learn best when home and school are on the same wavelength and these meetings provide another opportunity to strengthen these important relationships.

Please enjoy the holidays, whatever your plans may be, and find time to recharge the batteries before another big term of learning, extracurricular activities and events here at St Patrick’s.

Tristan Fay

FROM THE RE LEADER - ELIZA DWYER

CONDOLENCES

Condolences to Megan, Dan, Oliver, Poppy and Lola Myers on the recent death of Megan's father, Jack Smits. Please keep them in your prayers.

TERM 2 SPORTING NEWS

GIRL’S AFL FOOTY

On Thursday 7th June at Dennington Football Ground our St Pat’s girls participated in the SSV Warrnambool Division Footy Finals.  Our girls had a great day and were unlucky to miss out on the semi finals, finishing in 3rd place in our group of 4 on percentage.  We defeated Warrnambool East Primary School, were defeated by Our Lady Help of Christians PS and our game against Warrnambool Primary School ended in a draw.  Our goal kickers on the day were Ruby Connellen, Annika Fitzsimmons and Tara Wolff.  All of our girls contributed in all games, our better players throughout the day were Maeve Wright, Annika Fitzsimmons, Eadie Archbold, Ivy Condon, and Rosie Currer.

BACK TO BACK DIVISION SOCCER CHAMPS!!

For the second year in a row our girls soccer team has won the SSV Warrnambool Division Girl’s soccer final against Warrnambool Primary School.  It was another close game and in the first half Violet Atkins scored our first goal to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.  In the second half, WPS equalised to tie the scores at 1-1, before Eadie Archbold, scored our second goal late in the half to ensure our St Pat’s girls earned the right to compete in the Regional Finals in Ballarat.

Regional Finals

Our girls travelled to Ballarat on Thursday 20th June and participated in the regional finals.  In game 1 against St Columbus of Eureka we managed to win 4-0.  Maeve Wright and Ivy Condon each scored one goal and Eadie Archbold scored twice to get the girls off to a great start.  In our next game we went down 1-0 to Ararat West Primary School despite a dominant attacking performance where we managed to dominate possession of the ball with three very close shots on goal but were unable to get through.  In our final game we were defeated 4-0 by the powerhouse Ballarat Grammar.  We are super proud of our St Patrick’s girl’s football team for making the regional finals for two consecutive years.  A big thank you once again to Cara Coxall for her excellent coaching of the girls, and thanks to Anne Robertson and Jess Condon who supported and attended with the girls on the bus up and back on the day.  Thank you also to other Mums and Dads who attended and supported on the day.

BOY’S AFL FOOTY

Our St Patrick’s boy’s footy team competed on Friday 8th June in the SSV Warrnambool Division Footy finals at Walter Oval in Warrnambool. Our boys had 4 games for the day.  Our Lady Help of Christians PS from Warrnambool and St Patrick’s PS from Camperdown both proved to be far too strong (and tall!) for our boys.  We defeated Portland South Primary School comfortably in our third game of the day and in a closely fought tussle, were defeated by Woodford Primary School in our last match of the day.  Thanks to Paul Simpson for coaching our boys this year in winter sports.

NETBALLL

Our Winter Sports were held earlier this term.  We were able to field two netball teams - St Pat’s Firebirds and St Pat’s Giants. Our two highly skilled netball teams played admirably against all opposition teams. The girls loved the experience of playing indoors and outdoors. Lucky for us the weather was fine and we only had one minor scrape injury for the day.

The results were:

St Pat’s Firebirds

St Pat’s Giants

St Patrick’s   defeated   Grassmere

St Patrick’s  PF defeated Woolsthorpe

St Patrick’s  defeated   Woolsthorpe

St Patrick’ s defeated Hawkesdale

St Patrick’s were defeated by  Koroit St Patrick's

St Patrick’ s defeated  Mixed Hawkesdale

St Patrick’s  defeated  Mixed Consolidated

St Patrick’ s were defeated by St Patrick’s Koroit

St Patrick’s defeated  Consolidated

St Patrick’s defeated Consolidated Primary Seagulls

Many thanks to Mrs Malone, Tracey and Georgina for their team organisation on the day and to Mrs Balmer for umpiring.

SOCIAL INNOVATORS

The Year 6 Social Innovators group, 'A Place to Call Home', is creating care packs for the less fortunate. They are putting out a call for any old pillowcases or linen that you may be able to donate. They will use this material to make backpacks to carry the supplies they have gathered and will distribute them to the homeless.

They would also be grateful for toiletries (mini shampoos, cakes of soap, etc.) that you might have lying around or a gold coin donation to help with the purchase of materials.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off during the last week of this term.

Jump Rope for Heart is the Heart Foundation’s primary school skipping challenge that helps kids move more, have fun, and raise funds for life-saving research and programs.

Register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising, simply follow the link  to get started. www.jumprope.org.au/parents

Students will be skipping during the term in PE lessons & break time, during this time you can share their online fundraising page with family and friends to help raise money for this great cause.

We will hold our school Jump Off Day, on a date to be confirmed, this will mark the end of the program and is a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills.

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!

SCHOOL TV - PARENTING STYLES

Raising children can bring great joy as you watch them grow and develop into unique individuals. The relationship parents and caregivers have with their children will have a huge influence on their lives. Most parents learn about parenting ‘on the job’ and grow into their role with experience.

Whilst there are several parenting styles discussed in this special report, children benefit most when parents are warm and loving, providing clear guidance and support. Understanding more about different parenting styles and their affects on children, will help you decide what kind of style you may want to adopt.

To help you determine which style of parenting you use, complete the quiz below. Once complete, a report can be emailed to you with your results.
